The objective The Himalayas: The famous yet fragile roof of the world anthology is to focus on Himalayan natural and cultural landscapes and to explore some important moments of anthropic interventions that have impacted this region in significant ways. The book focuses on the diverse communities that inhabit and prosper in them, and the unique interventions in the collective lives of these communities that the mountains make. Though, by and large, mountain communities try to maintain their distinctiveness given their relative isolation, but many have been put through melting pots or crucibles from time to time. Thus, the book attempts to highlight Pan-Himalayan cultures, their legends and myths, and the need to preserve their cultural and natural heritage.
