This collection of Rosa Luxemburg’s speeches, pamphlets, articles, and manifestoes covers the full range of her political thought. All of the selections have been newly translated for this edition and many have never before appeared in English.
Brought together in this volumes are her major writings on reform and revolution, spontaneity and the role of the party, revolutionary tactics, trade unions and the mass strike, the Russian movement before the revolution in that country, and internationalism. Included is the book-length Social Reform or Revolution, “Women’s suffrage and the Class Struggle,” and the Junius Pamphlet. The volume ends with a selection of pieces, including “Order Reigns in Berlin,” written during the German Revolution of 1918-19, in the course of which she was assassinated.
Dick Howard, who teaches philosophy at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, has provided an introductory essay on Rosa Luxemburg’s dialectical method, as well as introductions to each of the volume’s six parts, in which he puts the selections in their historical and ideological setting. He has provided explanatory footnotes and a complete glossary.
